Tall Giraffe Sandwich

~ Sandwich ~ Cheerios ~ Pretzel Stick ~ Raisin ~

Cut the leg part off of the bread (as shown below). Set legs aside.
Make a sandwich with the remaining large piece of bread.

Cut the rest of the sandwich up as diagrammed. Turn body piece sideways,
with crust facing downward, and arrange the rest of the pieces as shown.

The antler (is that what it is?) is a pretzel stick with a cheerio on the end,
and is stuck between the two pieces of bread.

Decorate with cheerios and a raisin for the eye (or whatever else you can think of!)

Okay, he kinda looks like a llama, too!

Did you know you can paint your toast? Yep, it’s true. I learned it here.

This is a great interactive snack idea to involve your kids in (even toddlers love to paint)! It’s also SUPER easy and quick to clean up.

PAINTED TOAST FISH

~ Bread ~ Milk (or water) ~ Food Coloring ~ Cookie Cutter ~

To make the paint: mix a tablespoon of milk with food coloring to achieve desired shade. I poured milk in a little cup, squeezed food coloring onto a paint brush and mixed it right in that way, with the brush – sooo easy to make and clean up. If you’re concerned about your toddler spilling this milk paint, use yogurt or pudding as paint instead.

Cut out bread with cutter (or leave uncut and just paint slices of bread – would be fun for school lunch sandwich messages).

Paint bread with brush.

Toast in toaster.

I smeared cream cheese for Nemo’s stripes on this example.

Use this technique for making toasted cheese sandwiches, too!

Sometimes you just don’t have time for cutting fancy shapes in bread and making sandwiches, but don’t let that stop you!

I made a quick fried egg for breakfast, and when I saw the shape when it was cooked, I thought of a bird, so I quickly added some wings, legs, and an eye.

Spread a piece of bread with cream cheese and then trim the bread as shown in the diagram (the yellow is extra). Add pretzel bones and olive face and get ready for your kids to scream!

This sandwich works well with peanut butter & jelly because the jelly shows through the eyes and nose holes and looks cool and creepy, but feel free to substitute whatever kind of filling you want.

• Spread fillings on bottom slice of bread, set aside.

• Cut eyes and nose holes in top piece of bread (eyes: I used a bottle cap. nose: you could use a heart shaped cutter, but I used a skewer to poke holes in the shape I wanted and then pushed the piece out of the bread).
• Cut teeth out with butter knife.

Decorate:

• Use any little doodads in your kitchen to create decorative dots, flowers, and swirls. Google “sugar skulls” for tons of decoration inspiration!

• I used craisins, pumpkin seeds, mini marshmallows cut in half, chocolate chips and a mini cookie.

• Other good materials would be: candy, fruit snacks, licorice, etc.

• Fill in the teeth with something to make them show up (I used pumpkin seeds turned sideways).

• Garnish plate with marshmallow dots.

This Igor is the perfect cute yet creepy addition to your Halloween snack time! Add in Frankenstein & his Bride to make the party complete! Use olives and cream cheese to create these fun characters.

Tip: Use food coloring mixed into a bit of cream cheese (warm in microwave for 10 seconds for easier mixing and spreading) for an instant pop of color!

Tombstones

Mix a little cream cheese with some food coloring to get an icky gray or brown color (mix yellow, red, and blue together), and spread on bread. Cut bread in half and then trim bread halves into the shape of tombstones. Embellish with pretzel sticks, olives, alphabet pasta (or whatever you have – there is lots of room for creativity here!)

Autumn Tree

~ Pretzels ~ Peanut Butter ~ Chocolate Chips ~ Coconut ~ Food Coloring ~

There won’t be any leaves left to rake up with this sweet autumn treat – guaranteed! Just coat pretzel sticks in melted chocolate, arrange in a tree shape, and add coconut tinted with red and yellow food coloring to serve as tumbling autumn leaves. Yum!

Here’s a slightly less chocolatey alternative – a spooky tree!

There’s nothing spooky about how this tree tastes, though! Stick the pretzel stick “trunk” together with peanut butter, and dip the branches in melted chocolate chips to make this spooky yet sweet and salty treat.
